Lindsey Bulls paintings are an exploration around reality and illusion in particular, issuing forth the sensation of a fractured reality. The paintings often depict figures within and enveloped by spaces that feel simultaneously familiar and unreal. The idea of the isolated moment is imperative to both the making and reception of the paintings. Often small-scale, the paintings issue forth an intimate dynamism, which intend to create tension as inspired from a moment in time. Bull considers the works to present a kind of gothic psychedelia, existing at the juncture where psychedelic patterning and colours meet darker forces. Driven by an interest in ritualistic performances and the freak out of the acid trip, Bulls lexicon draws from sources including books on witchcraft and cults to boxing magazines and Kung Fu journals - individuals performing or engaged in some unknown ritual.

Bull completed her MA Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art and Design in 2009. She has exhibited widely in the UK and in Italy and China, including a solo exhibition at Transition Gallery in London in 2012 titled 'Out of the Cosmic Storm', as well as a 3-person group exhibition 'Painting Rituals' at Coldharbour London. Previous group exhibitions include Heavens to Murgatroyd, Arts Gallery, London 2011, Pulp Fictions, Transition Gallery, London 2011, Fade Away, Gallery North, Newcastle 2011 and 'I Am Solitary, I Am An Army', curated by Beers.Lambert Contemporary at Surface Gallery in Nottingham in September 2010. Lindsey will also be having a solo exhibition later in 2012 at the Bristol Gallery in Bristol.

Awards include the prestigious Red Mansion Prize, which included a residency in Beijing 2010, The Brenda Landon Pye Prize 2009 and thecentremk Annual Painting Prize exhibition finalist 2009, as well as the prize winner at the MotorCade/Flashparade National Open in 2011.

She lives and works in Manchester.
